Incumbency is a powerful thing. I don’t need to tell you that, because anyone visiting this site is dedicated to the idea of eradicating the detriment that the “Career Politician” has become to our society. Jeff and the COI-PAC crew have asked me to give a first hand account from our own current U.S. House race on just how powerful and corrupt incumbency is.
For those of you who don’t know, I am running for the United States House of Representatives in North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District. I am a three-time Iraq War veteran. I am going up against everything you oppose. My opponent is a seven-time incumbent, first elected in 1996. At the time he signed a pledge to serve no more than six terms. When the 2008 election came around, he not only ignored his pledge, he spat on it. In turn, he spat right in the face of every voter in District 7.
As I have studied and learned my opponent, I have been amazed at the arrogance incumbency brings with it. My opponent is most famous for bringing “Big Checks” (they actually are oversized checks) back to the district. From fixing potholes to beach tree nourishment, if there are votes to be had, he has got money to secure them. Only when he presents the “Big Check” it doesn’t say U.S. Taxpayer at the bottom of it. It says his name. This guy actually puts his own name on a check that is being cashed at your expense. In the real world, if you do that, it’s called check fraud and you go to jail. In the U.S. House of Representatives, you get celebrated.
In the past I would get really angry about the whole thing. Then I realized, we have no one to blame but ourselves. The wonderful thing about our country is that we have the power to stop anything, anytime we want. They are called elections. So until we have the WILL and the dedication to vote these thieves out of office, we have exactly the government we deserve.
In the past, our government has been allowed to get away with this abuse of the U.S. Taxpayer. Not anymore. 2010 is the year it stops! We have seen in Massachusetts, Virginia and New Jersey, that the revolution has already begun. The train has left the station and there is nothing the Pelosi-McIntyre Agenda can do to stop it. Americans are seeing through the games and no longer falling for the lies.
Unlike my opponent, I put my money where my mouth is. Last Fall, I became the first candidate nationwide to sign a “Bonded Term Limits Pledge.” What that means is I have vowed to serve no more than three full terms in the U.S. House. If I break my pledge, I break my bank account. I have backed my word with a $250,000 bond. If I go for term four, that full amount of money becomes property of a worthy charity here in Wilmington. It’s called meaning what you say, and saying what you mean. I strongly urge all COI-PAC readers to make sure all candidates sign the “Bonded Term Limits Pledge.”
Thanks again for allowing me the space to tell my story and my first hand run ins with the power of incumbency. We are always looking for great men and women to join our team and help us create victory in 2010! Please check out my website at www.awilltowin.net or email me directly at will@awilltowin.com. Thanks again to COI-PAC and keep up the great work! You will be vital to us taking back the country this November.
