Our organization is named COI based on the initials for CITIZENS OPPOSING INCUMBENCY. We have chosen the Koi fish as our symbol as the Koi fish is one which lives in harsh and unfriendly environments but is a survivor. Often living through harsh winters without food, the Koi has been known to have been frozen solid through the harsh winters and then, in the spring, after the thaw, the Koi mysteriously finds itself alive and able to swim and breathe against all odds.
Chinese King Shoko of Ro had presented a Koi to the first son of Confucius at his birth somewhere between 551 and 479 BC. Confucius named his son after the fish because it was considered to be a symbol of strength and power. Legend has it that this Koi was the only fish able to swim up the Yellow River falls. According to Japanese legend if a Koi succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River it would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement. More generally, the Japanese associate Koi with perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals.
The Koi Fish is symbolic, representing courage. Humans ’swim’ through the ‘ocean of suffering’ without fear, just like a fish swims through water. The Koi is also symbolic with family. On Children’s Day Koi flags are raised, Black Koi the father, Orange/Red mother, Blue/White for a boy, red/pink for a girl. No two Koi are identical. Just like Human beings and fingerprints, each individual is unique. But also like Humans, each unique individual gathers with others for common purpose. Koi like most Humans are friendly towards each other. Very rarely will a Koi harm another Koi, nor do the males harm the females. Koi are a symbol of a civilization of unique beings who are concerned for the collective group’s well being, as are most American citizens.
We, as Americans are a family of COI and we do have the strength, power, courage, perseverance and strength of purpose to take our country back even in the face of the adversity put upon us by our Government.
Like the Koi fish, the members of COI are survivors. We endure rough seasons with harsh political conditions brought about not by nature but by the self perpetuation of political office holders who for personal gain and the quest for power retain their incumbent seats in office. The two major political parties help in this self perpetuation by holding onto “seats” with the same old faces being recycled into office election after election. Our country has stagnated in the function of government and now we and other COI are seeing freedoms, liberties and rights stripped away by our corrupt, power seeking politicians. Parties do not allow “outsiders” (other citizens) to enter the realm of nominee on general election ballots because the parties themselves require the puppets of incumbent party faithful politicians to retain their seats to allow the 2 parties to control our country.
